MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a shocking incident, a Memphis man has been charged with murder after allegedly assaulting and fatally injuring a homeless individual. The victim, identified as George Cooper, was found unresponsive on September 24 at an abandoned business location.

According to the police report, authorities responded to the scene where they discovered Cooper lying on a cot. Paramedics arrived promptly but unfortunately pronounced him dead at the scene.

Eyewitnesses claim that Cooper had been assaulted the previous night across the street, in the parking lot of Sav-N-Go on Park Avenue. The assault reportedly involved multiple attackers who jumped the victim, leaving him severely injured.

The medical examiner’s office determined that Cooper’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the back of his head, highlighting the severity of the attack.

Police investigators reviewed surveillance footage, which revealed a man throwing a powerful punch at Cooper, causing him to fall to the ground. The impact of the fall resulted in Cooper’s head hitting the concrete surface of the parking lot.

Disturbingly, Cooper was left unattended on the ground for approximately 40 minutes before finally receiving assistance from passersby who helped him across the street.

Witnesses at the scene were able to provide crucial information about the attacker. The individual responsible for the assault was identified as a man known locally as “Ran Ran.”

Following a thorough investigation, authorities apprehended Randy L Johnson on September 19, charging him with second-degree murder in connection with Cooper’s tragic death.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerability faced by homeless individuals in our society, highlighting the need for increased awareness and support for this marginalized community.
