GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has announced that a man is now facing charges after allegedly filing a fake police report claiming sexual assault.

According to an affidavit released by SLED, the incident in question occurred on June 5, 2022, at approximately 7:50 p.m. when a Highway Patrol trooper was investigating a single-vehicle crash on Lake Cunningham Road.

The driver involved in the crash was identified as 38-year-old Corey Kinnunen.

During the course of the investigation, the trooper determined that Kinnunen was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. As a result, Kinnunen was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Following the clearance of the crash scene, the trooper visited the hospital to inform Kinnunen that he was under arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Kinnunen was taken into custody at the Greenville County Detention Center once he was released from the hospital on June 6, 2022.

However, the story took an unexpected turn when, a few weeks later on June 27, Kinnunen filed a citizen’s complaint form with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS). In the complaint, he alleged that after his discharge from the hospital on June 6, he was placed in the backseat of the trooper’s patrol vehicle. Kinnunen claimed that during the transport to the detention center, the trooper pulled over and sexually assaulted him. Additionally, he stated that he later discovered a green/yellow bag in his stool.

In response to these serious allegations, SLED was requested to conduct an investigation into the incident. The request for investigation was made on July 21, 2023.

During the course of the investigation, SLED obtained the in-car dash camera video footage from the trooper’s patrol vehicle. This footage recorded the entire journey of Kinnunen from the hospital to the detention center.

However, upon reviewing the video, SLED found no evidence to support Kinnunen’s allegations. None of the reported incidents were captured on the video footage.
