Man Charged with Assault in Naugatuck Road-Rage Incident

A middle-aged man is facing charges after being accused of assaulting two individuals during a disturbing road-rage incident that took place in Naugatuck on Friday.

Shawn Newton, 52 years old, has been formally charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace, according to the Naugatuck Police Department.

Authorities responded to the incident after receiving a distress call at approximately 10 a.m. The incident occurred on New Haven Road near the vicinity of 1160, where an aggressive altercation between two motorists led to physical violence.

One of the victims reported to the police that the conflict initially erupted on New Haven Road between her and another driver, later identified as Shawn Newton. The victim stated that Newton’s vehicle had abruptly cut her off and repeatedly brake-checked her, endangering the safety of both parties involved.

Multiple eyewitnesses were able to validate the victim’s account, confirming that Newton had indeed engaged in reckless driving maneuvers, cutting off several other vehicles before both parties eventually pulled into a parking lot at 1160 New Haven Road. It was at this point that Newton allegedly proceeded to assault both the female driver and a passenger in her vehicle, leaving them traumatized and injured.

Following his arrest, Shawn Newton was released on a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to make his appearance in Waterbury Superior Court on December 13.
