On November 16, 2023, at approximately 4:28 pm, the Colma Police Department swiftly responded to a distress call from a business located in the 5000 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard, reporting an ongoing theft.

The suspect, identified as a male individual, was reported to have stolen merchandise and posed a direct threat to the loss prevention officers who attempted to apprehend him.

According to police sources, the situation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the suspect’s eventual arrest.

Upon arriving at the scene, Colma officers promptly detained a male matching the provided description.

The individual was positively identified as the perpetrator of the theft by the business’s vigilant loss prevention team.

However, as the officers attempted to place the suspect in handcuffs, he fiercely resisted arrest, according to the police statement.

The situation took an even more alarming turn when the suspect, now positioned in the rear of the patrol vehicle, became combative.

In an unexpected twist, the suspect spat at two officers, striking one of them in the face, as confirmed by the officers at the scene.

Displaying extreme resistance, the suspect began flailing his body back and forth, intentionally colliding his head against the patrol car window, further endangering himself and the officers involved, the police added.

To mitigate the risk of harm to both the suspect and the officers, additional restraints were promptly applied.

The arrested individual, identified as a 43-year-old male from Oakland, is now facing multiple charges, including robbery, assault on a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Following the arrest, the suspect was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
