Tragic Shooting Incident in Bihar’s Lakhisarai Leaves Three Dead and Three Injured

LAKSHISARAI: A peaceful morning turned into a nightmare when a jilted lover opened fire on a family in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district on Monday, resulting in the death of three family members and leaving three others injured. The shocking incident took place in Punjabi locality of Lakhisarai town as the victims were returning home after offering morning ‘arghya’ to the Sun at a local pond.

According to reports, the assailant, identified as Ashish Choudhary, had been pursuing a romantic relationship with a girl from the family against her family’s wishes. The girl, unfortunately, also lost her life in the firing. The news of the shooting spread rapidly throughout the area, leading to a large crowd gathering at the victims’ house. Choudhary, who happened to be a neighbor of the deceased, fled the scene and is currently on the run.

In response to the tragic incident, the local authorities have deployed a police team in the area as a precautionary measure. Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar informed the media that three suspects have been detained for interrogation in connection with the incident. While the investigation is ongoing, initial findings suggest that the motive behind the shooting was a love affair gone wrong.

The assailant, Ashish Choudhary, had previously engaged in an altercation with the girl’s family around ten days ago. However, the matter seemed to have been resolved with the intervention of some local residents. Tragically, on Monday, Choudhary targeted the girl and her family members as they were returning home from ‘Chhath ghat’, a popular Hindu pilgrimage site.

“The youth was insistent on marrying the girl against the wishes of her family,” added Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar, shedding light on the motive behind the attack.

The three deceased victims have been identified as Durga Kumari (beloved), Rajnandan Jha, and Chandan Jha, who were brothers. Meanwhile, Shahshibhushan Jha, his wife Priti Devi, and another relative named Lovely Jha are currently undergoing treatment at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
