An Indian-Origin man tragically lost his life after being struck by a car in the US state of Ohio. According to the highway patrol police, Piyush Patel was walking along the substation road near Autumnwood Lane in Brunswick Hills when a southbound 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI hit him. The incident occurred on the evening of November 18.

Upon receiving the report, Ohio Highway Patrol officers swiftly arrived at the scene, where they unfortunately had to declare the 52-year-old deceased. Currently, the police are conducting an investigation into the matter, and no arrests have been made thus far.

The driver involved in the accident has been identified as 25-year-old Cameron Luiza from Brunswick. Thankfully, he was wearing safety restraints during the incident, which prevented him from sustaining any injuries.

Ohio has unfortunately witnessed similar incidents in the past. On November 14, another tragic crash occurred, resulting in the deaths of six people and leaving 18 others injured. The accident involved multiple vehicles on an Ohio interstate, including a charter bus carrying students.

Addressing the concerning issue of traffic safety, Acting Administrator Ann Carlson expressed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s commitment to reducing fatalities. She emphasized their efforts in implementing new regulations for vehicle technologies aimed at saving lives and the increased funding provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for state highway safety offices. Carlson also stated that they will continue to collaborate with safety partners to achieve the shared goal of zero fatalities.
