Memphis, TN – The city of Memphis was left in shock on Saturday night as a shooting spree claimed the lives of three women and a 13-year-old girl. The suspected gunman, Mavis Christian Jr., 52, was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Memphis Police Department has described the incident as a domestic violence situation, stating that Christian was a “known relative” of the victims.

The first shooting took place at Field Lark Drive, where police were dispatched just after 5:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the teenage girl and another victim. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old girl sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. The third victim was found approximately an hour later at 5050 Warrington Road, located around 13 miles away from the initial crime scene. Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of the victims or their relationship to Christian.

Following a daylong manhunt involving local, state, and federal authorities, Christian was discovered dead on Sunday inside a 2017 white Chevrolet Malibu. The investigation into the four fatal shootings, which occurred at three separate locations, is still ongoing.

MPD Public Information Officer Christopher Williams expressed his heartfelt sorrow outside the first shooting scene, stating, “As a father, it breaks my heart. These were somebody’s kids, sisters, aunts. These were people, real people. We have to do better. We must do better. As a community, it takes all of us. Not just the police, not just the community, but we have to work together to stop senseless acts of violence. We’re tired of it. The community’s tired of it.”

The tragic incident has left the Memphis community devastated, prompting a call for unity and a renewed effort to combat violence. As authorities continue their investigation, the city mourns the loss of four innocent lives.
