KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 20

In two separate tragic incidents, five individuals lost their lives in road accidents that occurred in Rukum West, a district within the Karnali province, and Jhapa, a district in the Koshi province.

Tragedy Strikes in Rukum West

Earlier today, a devastating accident took place in Gairijiula of Chaurjahari-8, Rukum West, resulting in the death of two individuals and leaving 22 others injured. The victims have been identified as Masta Bahadur Oli, a 45-year-old resident of Chaurjahari Municipality-13, and Pratik Buda, a seven-year-old child from Sanibheri Rural Municipality-2.

Among the injured, five individuals are currently in critical condition, and efforts are being made to airlift them to Kathmandu with the assistance of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Mission Hospital in Chaurjahari. Initial investigations suggest that the accident may have been caused by overloading, according to the police.

The ill-fated jeep with registration number Lu 1 Ja 2297 was en route from Chaurjahari Municipality to Khalanga when it skidded off the road and plunged into the Bheri river along the Gairijiula road of the Mid-Hill Highway. Inspector Bishnu Prasad Shrestha confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Tragic Road Accident in Jhapa

Meanwhile, in Kolbung of Rong Rural Municipality located in Ilam, a district within the Koshi province, three lives were lost in another heart-wrenching road accident. The victims have been identified as Manwati Lama, a 35-year-old resident of Dhanushadham Municipality-9, and Shanta Maya Tamang, a 60-year-old resident of the same village. Both succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the B&C Hospital in Birtamod, Jhapa.

The initial fatality in this incident was Arpan Lama, a 12-year-old boy from municipality-9, who tragically lost his life at the scene of the accident. The incident occurred on Sunday when a bus with registration number Na 6 Kha 8424 veered off the road and plummeted approximately 300 metres. In addition to the fatalities, at least 33 other individuals, including the driver, were injured in the accident. The injured victims are currently under medical care at the B&C Hospital, with two individuals reported to be in critical condition.
