Fatal Beating of Jonathan Lewis Jr.: Booking Photos Released of Teens Arrested in Connection

(FOX5) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department unveiled the booking photographs of four teenagers who were apprehended in connection with the tragic assault that resulted in the death of their fellow student. The four individuals, namely Treavion Randolph, Dontral Beaver, Gianni Robinson, and Damien Hernandez, made their initial appearances in the adult court system on Friday. During separate hearings, the two 16-year-olds and two 17-year-olds were ordered to be detained without bail until a formal hearing could address their custody status. A hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 21, to further address their cases.

According to the Associated Press, the remaining four suspects, who are all under the age of 16, are awaiting separate hearings. The legal proceedings for these individuals will differ due to their age.

The arrests of the eight students, ranging from 13 to 17 years old, were announced by the Las Vegas police last week. The incident, which occurred on November 1, involved a brawl over a pair of wireless headphones and a vape pen. Tragically, 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis Jr. lost his life as a result. Following the incident, the police sought the assistance of the public in identifying two additional individuals believed to be involved in the altercation.

Authorities have disclosed that the altercation took place in an alleyway near Rancho High School, where the students had agreed to meet after school. The entire incident was captured on cellphone video and subsequently circulated on various social media platforms.

It is worth noting that, in Nevada, teenagers aged 16 or older who are charged with murder are automatically transferred to the adult court system. Consequently, a family court judge transferred the cases of the four students involved in this incident. According to AP, Nevada law allows teenagers as young as 13 to be charged as adults in murder cases.

During a media briefing, LVMPD Lt. Jason Johansson described the video of the brawl as “very void of humanity.” The footage shows the victim removing his shirt, seemingly in preparation for the fight, before being swarmed by the ten students who proceeded to kick, punch, and stomp on him. It is evident from the video that the victim was unable to defend himself against the relentless assault.

Jonathan Lewis Jr. was rushed to the hospital following the incident and succumbed to severe head trauma and other injuries a week later, as confirmed by the coroner’s office in Las Vegas. The tragic loss of a young life has left the community grappling with grief and searching for answers.
