Brandon Ledwidge, 23, was gunned down in the front garden of his home in Barry Drive, Finglas, on Saturday evening. The victim was previously associated with the notorious ‘Gucci Gang’, acting as an enforcer for the gang led by ‘Mr Flashy’.

Ledwidge’s involvement with the gang came to an end when the ‘Gucci Gang’ became the target of major police operations, leading ‘Mr Flashy’ to flee to Co Wexford. Following this, Ledwidge joined a Finglas-based criminal organization, where his role involved the distribution of cocaine, cannabis, and ecstasy in the Finglas area. Despite being considered a “low level” member on the outskirts of the gang, Gardai in Finglas identified him as a person of interest.

One theory surrounding Ledwidge’s murder suggests that he may have been targeted due to a recent altercation with other members of the drugs gang. Sources indicate that Ledwidge had aspirations of making a name for himself and potentially going out on his own, which could have made him a target for rival criminals.

A concerned source stated, “He was simply a foot soldier who got in way over his head. Ledwidge seemed to enjoy being a drug runner and was always seen wearing designer clothes. When the Gucci Gang disbanded, he started working for a Finglas-based family involved in the drugs trade and was trying to make a name for himself. It’s possible he could have been trying to go out on his own, and that’s why he was targeted.”

The fear now is that this incident could spark further violence in the area. In response to the shooting, Gardai conducted a series of searches in the vicinity. It remains unclear whether the gunman made his escape in a getaway car. A case conference was held by law enforcement officials to establish a motive for the murder, with suspicions pointing towards the use of a handgun.

Authorities are urging the local community to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation. They emphasize the importance of community support in previous cases involving drug seizures, weapon recoveries, and the arrest of key players. The loss of another young life highlights the urgent need to address the escalating gang violence in the area.

Ledwidge received medical treatment at the scene before being transported to James Connolly Memorial Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead. As the Garda investigation unfolds, tributes pour in for the victim. Ledwidge’s uncle, Kevin, was also fatally shot in Finglas in 2007. One family member expressed their grief, describing Ledwidge as their “forever best friend” and stating, “Till we meet again, my favorite nephew, my love for you will keep me going.” Others mourned his loss, expressing disbelief and offering heartfelt condolences.

Meanwhile, ‘Mr Flashy’ remains in hiding in Co Wexford, fearing retaliation from former members of his gang. The situation serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing threat posed by organized crime in Dublin and the urgent need for effective measures to combat it..
