The police received reports of a woman’s body found in a clump of bushes at Experiment New Housing Scheme. Upon reaching the scene, they discovered the naked body of the victim lying face up. Alongside the body, they found a multi-coloured top with bloodstains, a pair of three-quarter denim pants, a bra, and underwear. Shockingly, the pants, bra, and underwear had been cut open. Next to the woman’s feet, a used condom and wrapper were found, while wrapped-up tissues were discovered between her legs.

Further inspection of the body revealed a total of 10 stab wounds – six to the abdomen, one to the left side breast, two to the throat, and one to the center of the chest. The police suspect that the woman was killed between 03:23h and 12:10h on Sunday.

According to reports, Charles was seen consuming alcohol at a popular bar in Bath Settlement, WCB, with her relatives and two friends, a male and a female. At around 20:00h on Saturday evening, Charles’s relatives left the bar, leaving her in the company of her friends.

Charles’s son, Yeukini Joseph, informed investigators that his mother had called him at about 03:23h on Sunday and asked if he was okay. Unfortunately, the call got disconnected before he could ask her if she was okay. When he tried to call her back, he discovered that her phone was turned off. Joseph noted that the background during the call was quiet, indicating that his mother had already left the bar.

The small community of Experiment New Housing Scheme, where the body was found, is in shock over the brutal murder. Residents, such as Devika Adams and Phillis Hendrix, expressed their concerns about safety in the area, as it is a new housing scheme with a significant amount of vehicle traffic passing through day and night.

Another resident, Venita Parrandass, who recently moved into the community, also voiced her fears and revealed that the community had previously made reports to the police regarding a particular situation but received no visit from them.

The police are currently continuing their investigations into the murder. Unfortunately, this incident adds to the rising number of murders in Guyana. According to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, there has been an increase in the number of murders throughout the country in 2023 compared to the previous year. Of particular concern is the high number of disorderly killings, where individuals take the law into their own hands.

The police force is determined to address this issue and ensure the safety of the Guyanese population. However, it is crucial for communities and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or concerns to the authorities..
