The 24-year-old fan, identified as Wen Johnson, was swiftly apprehended by security personnel and has been booked on charges of trespassing and obstructing public servants in the discharge of duty. Johnson, an Australian national, has been detained and taken to the Chandkheda police station.

The incident occurred before the first drinks break, causing a momentary disruption in the highly anticipated match. Johnson, wearing a face mask adorned with the design of a Palestine flag, boldly displayed his support for Palestine by donning a T-shirt with slogans that read ‘Stop bombing Palestine’ and ‘Save Palestine’ on the front and back, respectively.

Inspector Viraj Jadeja of the Chandkheda police station stated, “Johnson told us that he is a fan of Virat Kohli and wanted to meet him during the match. He wore the pro-Palestine T-shirt just for the sake of it. Otherwise, his main aim was to meet Kohli.”

In videos and photos shared on Johnson’s Instagram handle ‘pyjamamann’, he can be seen invading fields during football games and being swiftly escorted off by security personnel. One particular photo captures Johnson wearing a T-shirt that says “Free Ukraine” as he intrudes a football pitch.

Johnson cleverly concealed his pro-Palestine T-shirt by wearing a normal T-shirt over it before entering the stadium. Once inside, he removed the outer layer and made a beeline towards Kohli, who was batting at the time of the incident. The quick response from security personnel prevented any harm from coming to the players or the fan himself.

When questioned about his motive, Johnson expressed his desire to meet Kohli and clarified that he wore the T-shirt with the slogans because he supports Palestine. However, with tensions escalating between Israel and the militant group Hamas, the situation has become increasingly sensitive.
