In a significant development, a local court has handed down a verdict sentencing three people, including a woman, to four years in jail for the kidnapping of a minor girl in Panchkula in 2021. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 each on the convicts, identified as Titri Devi, Laxman Bansal, and Raju. The trio was found guilty under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 365 (kidnapping or abduction with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case dates back to April 4, 2021, when the police received a wireless message regarding the disappearance of a young girl. Upon reaching the location in Khuda Jassu, Chandigarh, the girl’s distressed mother revealed that she worked as an attendant in Sector 15, Chandigarh, and had two children. However, upon returning from work that day, she found her son at home but her daughter missing.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, the mother shared that she had spent three months at the PGIMER gurdwara for her daughter’s medical treatment. Fearing the worst, she hurriedly went there to search for her missing child. Unfortunately, her efforts were in vain, leading her to alert the police immediately.

Acting promptly on the mother’s complaint, the Panchkula police registered a case under Sections 363, 365, 370 (4) (trafficking of a minor), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified individuals involved in the incident. The authorities launched an investigation to locate the missing child and apprehend the culprits responsible for her abduction.

After thorough efforts, the police successfully traced the location of the child and swiftly arrested the accused individuals involved in the kidnapping. Subsequently, the case proceeded to the local court, where the three defendants, Titri Devi, Laxman Bansal, and Raju, were found guilty of the charges brought against them.
