According to the Defence Police Station House Officer (SHO) Shaukat Awan, the body was wrapped in a plastic bag and found in the water drum near Fatima Masjid. Initial investigations suggest that the woman was a victim of murder, but the SHO is awaiting the coroner’s findings for a conclusive statement.

The woman’s body, with her mouth bound by a cloth, was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) by Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed. Dr Syed stated that samples were collected from the body, and the exact cause of death would be determined after the receipt of reports. She estimated the age of the victim to be in her 30s.

South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza later revealed that the victim had been identified as a domestic worker in DHA. She had been residing with a man in their rented residence in Qayyumabad. The man, who works as a driver for a Chinese national in DHA, reported to the security guards that the woman had been “murdered” by another man and vowed to take revenge. Both men are currently considered suspects in the case and have disappeared.

The DIG mentioned that the woman hailed from southern Punjab, and the police are actively trying to locate her family in Karachi. SHO Awan expressed confidence in solving the case, stating that the police had gathered significant clues about the woman’s identity and the motive behind her alleged murder.

This incident comes on the heels of another tragic event in Karachi’s DHA, where a newly married woman was found shot dead. The police are currently investigating whether it was a suicide or murder. Additionally, just last month, a 35-year-old woman was shot dead in the city’s Orangi Town over a personal dispute. In a separate incident in September, a woman was killed by her husband in the name of ‘honour’ in the same area.

These incidents are a grim reminder of the gender-based violence prevalent in Pakistan. According to the National Commission of Human Rights, approximately 63,000 cases of gender-based violence have been reported in the country over the past three years.

Authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety and security of women in Pakistan. The investigation into this recent incident is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available..
