BARASAT/KOLKATA: Tragedy struck in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Sunday as the decomposed bodies of four family members were discovered in their apartment. The deceased have been identified as Brindaban Karmakar, a 52-year-old cloth merchant, his wife Debasree Karmakar, in her forties, their 17-year-old daughter Debaleena, and their eight-year-old son Utsaha. The bodies were found in their closed apartment on M S Mukherjee Road in the Khardah area under Barrackpore Police Commissionerate.

According to the police, it is suspected that Brindaban Karmakar murdered his family members by poisoning them before taking his own life. His body was found hanging from the ceiling, while the bodies of his wife and children were discovered in different areas of the flat. A suicide note was also found, in which Karmakar mentioned that he took this extreme step due to his inability to bear his wife’s alleged extra-marital affair.
