SITAMARHI: In a tragic incident, three individuals have lost their lives and one person has been admitted to the hospital after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district, according to the local police.
The authorities have already arrested three individuals on charges of selling counterfeit alcohol, shedding light on the severity of the situation.
Acting on a tip-off regarding two individuals undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Sitamarhi after consuming spurious liquor, the police swiftly responded and arrived at the scene during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
“Regrettably, upon their arrival at the hospital, one person identified as Awadesh Kumar had already succumbed to the effects of the toxic liquor. The exact cause of his death can only be determined after a post-mortem examination,” stated a police spokesperson.

Another individual named Roshan Rai is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital, and the police are maintaining constant communication with his family members, ensuring their support during this difficult time.
During the course of the investigation, the police discovered that two more individuals had tragically lost their lives in the same area after consuming the spurious liquor.
“Villagers informed the police about the deaths of two additional individuals in the area. Unfortunately, their bodies were cremated without notifying the authorities,” the spokesperson added.
Furthermore, the police managed to seize approximately 90 bottles of counterfeit liquor from the possession of the accused individuals, highlighting the scale of the illegal operation.
It is important to note that the sale and consumption of alcohol have been banned in Bihar since 2016 under the Nitish Kumar government. Despite ongoing efforts to combat bootleggers and smuggling, incidents of counterfeit alcohol continue to be reported in the state.
Earlier this year, in April, over 30 people tragically lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor in the East Champaran district, further emphasizing the urgent need for stricter regulations and enforcement in the region.
