Sitamarhi liquor deaths: Three individuals have lost their lives, and another has been hospitalized after consuming counterfeit liquor in Sitamarhi district, Bihar, according to the police. So far, three individuals have been apprehended for selling fake alcohol. The incident has raised concerns about the availability and consumption of illicit alcohol in the state.

The police were alerted to the situation when they received information that two individuals were being treated at a private hospital in Sitamarhi after consuming spurious liquor. They immediately rushed to the hospital during the early hours of Saturday. Unfortunately, one of the individuals, identified as Awadesh Kumar, had already succumbed to the effects of the toxic liquor. The exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination, as stated in a police statement.

Police investigation underway:

Another individual, Roshan Rai, is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital, and the police are in contact with his family members. During the course of the investigation, the police learned of two additional deaths in the area related to spurious liquor consumption. However, the bodies were cremated without informing the police, as per the police statement.

The police have seized around 90 bottles of illicit liquor from the possession of the accused individuals. It is important to note that the sale and consumption of alcohol have been prohibited in Bihar since 2016 under the Nitish Kumar government. Despite ongoing efforts to crack down on bootleggers, incidents of liquor smuggling and consumption continue to be reported in the state.

This incident comes just months after more than 30 people lost their lives in East Champaran district due to the consumption of spurious liquor in April.
