Man Impaled by 50-Foot Pipe in Oil Field Accident Survives Surgery

Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A man who was rushed to the hospital after being impaled by a 50-foot pipe at an oil field on Thursday has successfully undergone surgery, according to family members.

The incident took place on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at an oil field located between Electra and Kamay in Wichita County. Multiple agencies responded to reports of an injury accident off of Highway 25. Wichita County Sheriff David Duke provided details about the incident, stating that upon arrival, first responders discovered Felipe Carrillo, a Hispanic male, who had been impaled by a pipe. The pipe struck Carrillo’s shoulder and exited below his belt, causing severe injuries.

Images from the scene show the pipe embedded in the ground, with approximately 40 feet of it still protruding above Carrillo. Rescuers worked diligently to cut away as much of the pipe as possible, but Carrillo’s injuries made it impossible for him to fit into an Air Evac ambulance. As a result, he was transported to the hospital by AMR with approximately two feet of the pipe still inside him. Remarkably, the pipe managed to avoid hitting any major organs or bones.

Chelsey Carrillo, Felipe’s wife, expressed relief about her husband’s condition. She stated that the surgeon anticipates muscle damage to be the only complication arising from the incident. Providing an update on Thursday evening, Chelsey shared that Felipe had successfully undergone surgery and was doing well. In a Facebook post made on Friday morning, she mentioned that he had even managed to take a few steps and was sitting up straight. Felipe’s recovery seems to be progressing positively, and Chelsey is grateful for his survival.

While the incident is still under investigation, authorities have classified it as an accident. Chelsey Carrillo firmly believes that her husband’s survival and ongoing recovery are not coincidental. She attributes his miraculous escape from what could have been a tragedy to the grace of God.
