Man Accused in Cow Slaughter Case Killed, Another Injured in Police Encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur

Late on Saturday night, an intense exchange of gunfire between the police and two individuals accused in a cow slaughter case resulted in one fatality and another person being critically injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district. The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Sajid, while the injured individual is known as Bablu. Both hailed from Moradabad.

The incident unfolded when the police received credible intelligence about the whereabouts of the accused who were believed to be coming to Moradabad that same night. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police set up a checkpoint and awaited the arrival of the suspects. As the officers spotted a vehicle approaching at high speed from Moradabad, it abruptly changed direction upon seeing the checkpoint, attempting to evade the police pursuit.

During the ensuing chase, the speeding vehicle lost control and overturned. Seizing the opportunity, the accused emerged from the car and opened fire on the police. In self-defense, the officers retaliated, resulting in severe injuries to the suspects. They were immediately rushed to the district hospital, but unfortunately, Sajid succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Bablu, on the other hand, remains in critical condition and is currently receiving medical attention.

Following the incident, a case has been registered against the accused individuals under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.

This unfortunate occurrence comes just a month after another incident in Tripura, where a 48-year-old man named Alamgir Hossain was shot dead by a Border Security Force (BSF) officer on allegations of smuggling cows. However, the family of the deceased vehemently dismissed these claims as false and demanded stringent action against the BSF personnel involved.

Expressing their anguish, a family member of Hossain stated, “We are distraught by the actions of the BSF and find it unbearable to remain here due to their persecution. We demand stringent action against the BSF personnel, who, in our view, are not executing their duties diligently and have caused the unnecessary loss of innocent lives. We intend to pursue legal action against the BSF.”

These incidents underscore the ongoing tensions surrounding cow slaughter and illegal cattle transportation in India. In a separate incident that occurred in April in Karnataka’s Ramanagara, a cattle trader named Idrees Pasha was allegedly murdered by cow vigilantes. Pasha, who was accused of illegally transporting cattle for slaughter, vehemently denied the allegations and presented documents proving that he had purchased the cattle from a local market. However, the vigilantes disregarded his pleas, subjected him to verbal abuse, and even told him to go to Pakistan.

As the debate on cow protection continues, it is crucial for authorities to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation into such cases and take appropriate action against those responsible for any wrongdoing. The loss of innocent lives in these confrontations calls for a balanced approach that upholds the principles of justice and protects the rights of all individuals involved..
