Man Fatally Shot in Birmingham Neighborhood Identified

Authorities have released the identity of a man who was tragically shot and killed in the early hours of Saturday morning in Birmingham, Alabama.

The victim has been identified as Demetrious Restee Williams, a 36-year-old resident of Fairfield.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. when officers from the West Precinct responded to a Shot Spotter alert indicating gunfire at the intersection of Avenue W and 18th Street in Ensley. However, during their journey, the call was updated to report a man lying on the roadway.

Upon arrival, the police discovered Williams with gunshot wounds, unresponsive and in critical condition. Tragically, Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, the Shot Spotter system detected approximately nine rounds fired.

“Due to the ongoing investigation, details regarding the incident are limited at this time,” said Sgt. Wade.

Sadly, Williams was the first of three individuals who lost their lives due to gun violence in Birmingham on Saturday.

Less than 12 hours later, at 3:33 p.m., another shooting occurred resulting in the death of a 24-year-old man who was shot while inside a vehicle outside a store in Ensley.

Approximately 30 minutes after the second incident, a separate shooting took place in the 2600 block of Avenue C, leaving one man injured. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with any of these fatal shootings.
