“We have collected the hard disk with the CCTV footage of the police station when Singh had visited on Wednesday. We have also questioned 17 people, including policemen and other witnesses,” said an officer involved in the case.

The family members of Singh have alleged that he was beaten up by the police, leading them to seek justice through the court. However, the police have denied any instance of assault and stated that the cause of death was “intracranial haemorrhage,” possibly caused by a rupture of a brain aneurysm.

Acting on a court order, officers seized the hard disk and transferred Singh’s body from Kolkata Police Hospital to SSKM Hospital on Friday. Following a fresh order from the High Court, the police handed over the body to Singh’s family and transported it in a hearse with a police pilot car from the hospital to the crematorium.

“We had gone to SSKM hospital to retrieve the body on Thursday, but the cops had refused. So we moved court again and finally got his body for cremation,” said Bijoy Shaw, Singh’s nephew.
