Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : LUDHIANA: A car driver, identified as Sukhchain Singh from Ramgarh Bora in Patiala District, has been arrested by Maloud police after he tragically ran over two women who were working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) scheme in the area. The victims, identified as 55-year-old Baljinder Kaur and Buddha, both residents of Lehal village, lost their lives in the incident.
The incident took place on Saturday around 4:30 pm when Baljinder Kaur, Buddha, and a group of 35 to 36 women were involved in MNREGA work in the area. As they were returning from work towards Sua Pull Rara Sahib, Hakam Singh, the husband of the deceased Baljinder Kaur, and Dalwara Singh witnessed a white Swift car being driven recklessly and at a high speed on the wrong side of the road.
According to Hakam Singh, the car driver collided with the group of MNREGA workers, leading to the tragic incident. Baljinder Kaur and Buddha lost their lives on the spot. The police were immediately informed about the incident.
Upon receiving the information, the Maloud police reached the scene and initiated an investigation into the matter. The bodies of the victims were shifted to the government hospital for post-mortem examination.
The accused driver, Sukhchain Singh, has been charged under sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The incident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter traffic regulations. The reckless driving and high speed of the car resulted in the loss of innocent lives. The MNREGA workers, who were engaged in important government work, became victims of negligence on the part of the car driver.
