Accident – Death – Obituary News : Meerut: In a significant development, the special Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe court in Bulandshahr has handed down a life sentence to a 32-year-old man, Saurabh Yadav, for the brutal murder of a 22-year-old Dalit woman in 2017. The victim, a bright young woman who was pursuing her graduation, was mercilessly killed by Yadav. The judge, Vijay Pal, also ordered Yadav to pay a fine of Rs 50,000, out of which Rs 30,000 will be given to the deceased’s father as compensation.

The father of the victim recounted the horrifying incident, stating, “Yadav molested my daughter at a bus stop in the city in November 2016. He fled after my daughter started screaming. He also hurled casteist slurs at her, highlighting the deep-rooted prejudice in our society.”

Following the incident, the victim’s father immediately lodged a complaint with the Anupshahr police station against Yadav. However, Yadav attempted to influence the complainant to settle the matter outside of court, but the family refused to succumb to such pressure.

Tragically, around nine months after the molestation incident, in August 2017, the victim’s father was attending a court hearing, while his wife and brother were working in the fields. During this time, Yadav entered their house through the terrace around 1 pm and strangled the young woman to death. The family, returning from the field, witnessed Yadav fleeing through the terrace.

Speaking to the Times of India, ADGC Vipul Raghav stated, “The police registered another FIR under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sent the body for postmortem. The autopsy report confirmed ‘strangulation’ as the cause of death.”

The court found Yadav guilty of murder, molestation, criminal intimidation under the IPC, and relevant sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
