Soundharya and her daughter, residents of AKG Colony under Kadugodi police limits, were on their way to Soundharya’s mother’s house when the accident took place. It was around 6 am when they were walking on the footpath and inadvertently stepped onto a wire that had fallen on the road. The high voltage electric shock instantly claimed their lives, leaving everyone in shock and disbelief.

Promptly informed by passersby, the Kadugodi police arrived at the scene and registered a case. They have initiated a thorough investigation into the tragic deaths of Soundharya and her daughter. Preliminary findings suggest that fiber-optic cables have fallen on footpaths in several areas of the city and have not been removed, leading to such unfortunate incidents. It is believed that Soundharya mistakenly assumed the electric wire to be a harmless fiber-optic cable and inadvertently stepped on it.

Expressing their anguish and concern, citizens have demanded action against the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) for their negligence in addressing the issue of live wires lying on the city roads. Whitefield Rising, a citizens’ group, took to social media to express their outrage and said, “She came in contact with a live BESCOM wire just hanging from the top. Hope Farm is one of the busiest junctions in Whitefield, with thousands of people walking, waiting to catch the bus, walking to the metro station. When will an FIR be filed against negligence in Bangalore?”

In response to the incident, Shivakumar Gunare, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Whitefield division, revealed that three BESCOM workers have been detained and are currently being questioned. Their involvement in the incident is being thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
