Mumbai: In a shocking and horrific incident that has sent shockwaves through the city, a 19-year-old college student was allegedly raped by two men at a flat in the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) quarters in Chembur area. The accused, identified as 26-year-old Ajit Kumar Yadav and his friend Prabhakar Yadav, aged 30, have been arrested and are currently in police custody until Monday.

According to reports, the incident took place between 10 pm and 12:30 am on the intervening night of November 15 and 16. The victim, a commerce student, had come to Mumbai to visit her father, who is an employee at BARC and resides in one of the buildings in the complex opposite Maa Municipal Hospital in Chembur.

The first accused, Ajit Kumar Yadav, is the son of another BARC staffer and lived in a flat near the victim’s father’s house. The police stated that Yadav knew the victim. On the day of the incident, Yadav’s parents were not at home, and he invited his friend Prabhakar Yadav, who is a resident of Govandi, to his house.

According to the police, the victim went to Ajit’s house to borrow some ingredients for cooking. It was during this visit that the accused duo allegedly offered her a bottle of spiked cold drink. After consuming a few sips of the drink, the victim lost consciousness. Taking advantage of her unconscious state, both men took turns to rape her.

They were arrested on the same day and presented before the court, which remanded them to police custody until November 20.

As part of their investigation, the police have collected samples of the spiked cold drink from the accused’s flat, which have been sent for forensic examination. Additionally, the victim’s medical examination will be added to the chargesheet once it arrives, as confirmed by the police.
