Two Men Charged in Connection to Homicide in Downtown Bemidji

Two individuals have been formally charged in relation to a disturbing homicide incident that occurred near downtown Bemidji on August 10th. The case, which has stirred shock and concern within the local community, has now taken a significant step forward in terms of investigation and legal proceedings.

According to an initial statement provided by Bemidji Police Captain David LaZella, law enforcement authorities received a distress call requesting a welfare check on a resident in the 1200 block of Minnesota Avenue Northwest at approximately 11:10 a.m. on August 12th.

Upon arrival at the specified location, officers discovered the lifeless body of a male individual, later identified as 29-year-old Jared William Eason. Following an extensive investigation, it was determined that Eason’s death resulted from an act of homicidal violence, as stated in the initial release.

Reports obtained from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office have indicated that the cause of Jared Eason’s demise can be attributed to blunt force injuries. In light of this distressing revelation, Bemidji police detectives, in collaboration with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, meticulously processed the crime scene for potential evidence and conducted interviews with multiple individuals.

As a direct outcome of this extensive investigation, two suspects have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in Jared Eason’s tragic death. Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin, in a subsequent statement, confirmed the arrest of 40-year-old Joseph Robert Eason and 36-year-old Daniel James Eason.

Joseph Robert Eason is currently facing charges of first-degree manslaughter, while Daniel James Eason has been charged with aiding an offender after the fact, according to the official release issued by Chief Mastin.
