The Limassol District Court, after carefully considering the evidence presented by the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigators, approved the request for a five-day extension of the suspects’ detention. This decision comes as a significant development in the ongoing investigation into this heinous crime.

The proceedings began at 10:30 a.m., with the lead investigator, Kostas Michael, providing a comprehensive account of the events surrounding the case. Michael revealed that during the examination of the charred vehicle used in the execution of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, investigators discovered incinerated weapons, clothing, and bullets. This crucial evidence adds weight to the case against the suspects.

Moreover, investigators revealed that reliable information suggested the two suspects, including the 21-year-old, had been trailing Kalogeropoulos on October 25 with the intention of carrying out a premeditated murder. The precise reasons for the thwarting of this plan are yet to be ascertained.

Adding more depth to the investigation, surveillance cameras captured the suspects’ vehicles visiting a mansion in Skarinou in the days leading up to the murder. Particularly noteworthy, one of the BMW vehicles, known to be in the possession of the suspects, was found burned in an area south of the mansion on October 26.

Further investigation confirmed that the burned vehicle had indeed been driven by the suspects on the preceding day, October 25. It was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen and was bearing fraudulent plates registered to a Mazda Demio, suggesting an attempt to conceal their identities.

In a significant development, a black spray paint can was found in the possession of the 21-year-old suspect. This indicates potential efforts by the perpetrators to alter the appearance of the murder vehicle, specifically by painting the door handles of the stolen Mazda Demio black, possibly in a bid to avoid identification.

Additionally, investigators discovered a jumpsuit resembling the one worn by the alleged perpetrator, a 41-year-old motorcycle rider, at the residence of the 21-year-old suspect. This finding further strengthens the case against the two individuals.

Telecommunication data obtained from the 41-year-old suspect’s mobile phone indicated that he received signals from an area of the mansion in Skarinou, which is owned by the 44-year-old suspect. In a significant revelation, his mobile signal was traced to Livadia, where the 21-year-old resides, in the early hours of the day of the murder, October 30. It is alleged that he used the stolen vehicle to pick up the 21-year-old, executing their plan.

The two suspects are now facing investigation for a total of six offences, including conspiracy to commit murder, premeditated murder, possession, transportation, and use of a firearm, possession, transportation, and use of explosive materials, vehicle arson, and theft. The gravity of these charges reflects the severity of the crime committed.

Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, a 54-year-old individual known to authorities, was ruthlessly gunned down by two men near Yermasoyia beach on October 30.
