Armed Suspect Opens Fire in New Hampshire Psychiatric Hospital, Killing Security Guard

An armed suspect entered a psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire, opening fire in the lobby and tragically killing a security guard. However, the attacker’s rampage was swiftly brought to an end as an officer on duty at the hospital returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect. The police officer emerged unharmed from the incident.

Law enforcement officials have not yet released the name of the attacker or determined a motive for the attack.

Preliminary reports initially suggested the presence of multiple victims, but subsequent investigations have revised down the casualty count.

The Victim: Bradley Haas

The victim has been identified as Bradley Haas, a 63-year-old security officer stationed at the front entrance of the hospital. Despite immediate medical attention, including attempts at CPR, Haas succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Concord Hospital.

The Attack and Police Response

According to police spokesman Colonel Mark Hall, the suspect gained access to the hospital’s lobby before opening fire on an unidentified individual. However, the situation quickly escalated as a state trooper, who happened to be in close proximity, promptly intervened and neutralized the assailant. Colonel Hall emphasized that the incident was contained within the front lobby area.

Law enforcement authorities have refrained from disclosing the identity of the deceased victim and are actively working to establish the shooter’s identity.

Investigation and Safety Measures

Following the incident, officials conducted a thorough search of a suspicious box truck located near the scene. However, it was determined that the vehicle posed no immediate risk.

Lori Weaver, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, reassured the public during a press conference that all patients and staff within the hospital were safe. She emphasized that normal operations at the facility would continue without disruption.
