Perry’s family reported her disappearance after she failed to return home to Houston as planned following her trip to Big Bend National Park, as stated by the National Park Service. It was revealed that she had rented a car in Midland, Texas, and arrived at the park on November 9. However, she did not make it to her camping reservation that night at the Chisos Basin Campground. The rental car was later found at the trailhead of the Lost Mine Trail.

The search for Perry began on Wednesday, with Park Rangers and U.S. Border Patrol Agents tirelessly combing the area. To provide ample space for the search teams, the Lost Mine Trail, which has a round trip distance of 4.8 miles, was closed on Thursday. Despite the challenging terrain and the passage of time, the search efforts continued into Friday.

Rescuers were able to locate Perry at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, around a quarter of a mile below the summit of the Lost Mine Trail, according to the National Park Service. Big Bend National Park, situated in southwestern Texas near the U.S.-Mexico border, encompasses approximately 800,000 acres of stunning natural beauty.
