According to the FIR, the accused deceived the family by promising to arrange a rented house for them. However, he failed to fulfill his promise and did not repay the money. Shockingly, it was revealed that Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath, who had taken the initiative to find a rented house for the family, had given the accused ₹20,000 as an advance payment. The family was unaware of this transaction.
Interestingly, the accused happens to be the husband of Haseena Muneer, who has been suspended as the Ernakulam district general secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Mahila Congress for tarnishing the organization’s reputation.
“We have already recorded the statement of the victim’s family. We are now focusing on recording the statement of the accused and collecting bank account details,” said police sources.
When questioned about Haseena Muneer’s knowledge of the alleged cheating, the police sources stated that it can only be determined after recording the accused’s statement. Haseena Muneer was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.

In response to the heinous crime, the Kerala government provided ₹10 lakh as financial aid to the victim’s family. Additionally, ₹1 lakh each was deposited in the names of the three other children of the family, utilizing funds from the construction workers’ welfare fund.
The police launched an investigation after Industries Minister P. Rajeeve called for strict action following the public outcry over the incident. The parents had initially brought the matter to the attention of Raji Santhosh, the president of Choornikkara panchayat, who then alerted MLA Anwar Sadath.
The Aluva East police are committed to bringing justice to the victim’s family and are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation. The collection of bank transaction details and the recording of the accused’s statement are crucial steps in building a solid case against the alleged perpetrator.
