Michigan Man Missing Since June Found Dead, Authorities Report

Police were able to find the body of the man described by his family as a ‘loving father’ five months after he was reported missing

The Remains of Missing Michigan Man James Wilkins Found, Roommate Arrested for Murder

The remains of 27-year-old James Wilkins were discovered buried in a remote area on November 14, according to a report by Fox 2 News. Michigan State police, aided by a cadaver dog, located the body of Wilkins, who had been reported missing five months prior. Wilkins was described by his family as a loving father.

Authorities had already made an arrest in connection with Wilkins’ disappearance. In August, Donald Renfoe, Wilkins’ roommate, was taken into custody and charged with tampering with evidence, concealing the death of an individual, possession of a felony firearm, and first-degree murder. Another individual, identified as Darius Glenn, was charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly assisting Renfoe in concealing the murder. The family of Wilkins had reported his suspicious disappearance to the Warren, Michigan police on June 9 when attempts to contact him went unanswered. Law enforcement quickly identified Renfoe as a person of interest and suspected foul play.

The sudden disappearance of Wilkins had devastated his loved ones, as reported by Yahoo News. His father, Reggie Edwards, expressed his anguish, stating, “He does not deserve this to happen to him; he has done nothing all his life. He’s been a good boy. He’s never given us problems.”

During the investigation, police conducted a search of Wilkins’ apartment, where they discovered a recently patched bullet hole and what they believed to be blood. They also found other items that pointed to Renfoe’s guilt. “Detectives obtained additional evidence that showed that on the date of Wilkins’ disappearance, Renfoe rented cleaning equipment and purchased additional cleaning supplies from a local hardware store,” the police said. “The investigation also revealed that Renfoe contacted and worked together with a male friend, Darius Glenn, to clean out Wilkins’ apartment and likely dispose of Wilkins’ body.”

Renfoe attempted to flee to Ohio but was apprehended on unrelated charges. If convicted of Wilkins’ murder, he faces a life sentence in prison.
