A former football player has been tragically identified as the man who was fatally shot and left to die on a busy main road in Rockhampton, central Queensland. Anuisha Bone, 34, was found with a gunshot wound to his neck on Yeppoon Road at approximately 4 am on Friday. Paramedics immediately rushed to the scene after a member of the public discovered his body.

Devastated friends of Mr. Bone, affectionately known as ‘Nooks’, have taken to social media to share their final goodbyes and pay tribute to the former footballer. One person wrote, “RIP Nooks, fly high bro… Gunna miss ya,” while another said, “Rest easy mate, you’d be cruising through a way better realm than this one anyway.” The outpouring of grief continued as friends expressed their sorrow, saying, “Rest easy beautiful.”

Mr. Bone was a well-known figure in the local sporting community, having played for Brothers Rugby League in Rockhampton. He was also selected for an under 19’s representative team, showcasing his talent and dedication to the sport. In photos posted on social media, Mr. Bone can be seen enjoying activities such as fishing, riding motorbikes, and posing with his beloved pet dogs.

Queensland Police are now appealing to the public for information or any footage related to a vehicle they believe is of interest to the ongoing homicide investigation. Superintendent Darrin Shadlow revealed that a light green Hyundai Getz sedan had been spotted in the area around the time of the incident. The vehicle was also seen in Berserker, Rockhampton City, and Port Curtis the day before and after the shooting. Bodycam footage captured officers searching through the contents of the Hyundai, and detectives are keen to speak with the driver and passengers.

“We do have a number of lines of inquiry; however, I don’t want to go into them at this stage,” said Supt Shadlow on Saturday. “We do not believe that this was a random shooting incident, and we do believe that the people involved were known to each other.”

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and the sound of cars speeding away before Mr. Bone’s body was discovered. The police will provide support to Mr. Bone’s family during this difficult time, according to Supt Shadlow. He also mentioned that it appeared Mr. Bone had not been at the scene for long, further adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.

The investigation into this tragic incident is still ongoing, and the Rockhampton community remains in shock over the loss of a talented athlete and beloved friend..
