In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the East Godavari police have apprehended a notorious five-member gang, which includes a 42-year-old woman. The operation led to the seizure of 15 bags of ganja from a residence in Hukumpeta village, situated under the jurisdiction of the Bommuru police station in Rajamahendravaram rural area.

Acting on credible information, the Rajamahendravaram North Zone Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), N. Kishore Kumar, along with his team, conducted a well-coordinated raid on November 17. The raid resulted in the discovery of a staggering 300 kg of ganja, with an estimated street value of ₹15 lakh. The illicit substance had been skillfully packed in bags and was ready for transportation to various undisclosed locations. Additionally, two vehicles used in the illegal operation were also seized by the police.

During a press conference held on November 18 in Rajamahendravaram, DSP Kishore Kumar shed light on the details of the operation. He stated, “We received reliable intelligence regarding the smuggling of ganja by this gang, which prompted us to carry out the raid. The individuals involved in this criminal activity have been identified as Gollavilli Rambabu, Ruttula Dorababu, Kallepalli Srinivasa Rao, A. Seshu, and P. Lakshmi.” The police have filed a case against the accused, and a thorough investigation is currently underway. The suspects were produced before a local court on Saturday.

Ganja, also known as cannabis, is a highly potent illegal drug that poses serious health risks and societal challenges.
