GURNEE, UK – In a shocking incident, a single-vehicle crash occurred at a popular grocery store in Gurnee, leaving two women injured and trapped inside their SUV. The accident took place on Thursday morning when an elderly driver lost control of her vehicle, hitting a sign, reversing at high speed, and ultimately crashing into a tree, causing the SUV to roll over.

The Gurnee Fire Department and Gurnee Police Department swiftly responded to the scene at Jewel-Osco, located on West Grand Avenue. Reports suggest that the vehicle crash resulted in entrapment, with the white Jeep SUV overturning and both occupants unable to exit the vehicle.

According to Shawn Gaylor, the Public Information Officer for the Gurnee Police Department, officers arrived at the grocery store’s parking lot to find the aftermath of the rollover crash. The driver, identified as an 81-year-old Gurnee woman, had been attempting to park in a handicapped spot when the accident occurred. It was revealed that she accidentally accelerated, colliding with the handicapped parking sign. In a moment of panic, the driver then reversed at an accelerated speed and collided with a nearby tree, causing the vehicle to roll over. Thankfully, there were no pedestrians or other vehicles involved in the collision.

The Gurnee Fire Department immediately initiated rescue operations to extricate both occupants from the overturned Jeep. The trapped individuals were identified as a 61-year-old Gurnee woman, who was the passenger in the vehicle.

Emergency services transported both women to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for further medical attention. Fortunately, their injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening, providing some relief amidst the dramatic incident.

The authorities are currently investigating the precise cause of the crash, including factors such as the driver’s condition, weather conditions, and any mechanical issues that may have contributed to the accident.
