Jermaine Edwards, a 51-year-old former resident of Morristown, will also have his driver’s license suspended for five years upon release from prison, as stated in a press release by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident occurred on the evening of August 12, around 9 p.m., near the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Lackawanna Place, as reported by the prosecutor’s office.

Law enforcement officers who responded to the scene discovered an unidentified male victim who had been fatally struck by a car that fled without stopping, according to investigators.

Edwards was identified as the driver two days after the incident and subsequently arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, officials confirmed. On October 18, he pleaded guilty to the offense, according to prosecutors.
