Arrested Suspects in Coimbatore Gang Robbery: R Jagath Hari and Cheran

Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : Coimbatore: The Peelamedu investigation wing police have made further progress in the case of the eight-member gang who robbed three individuals in separate incidents. On Friday, they successfully apprehended the remaining two culprits who were on the run. The arrests came after a series of robberies that took place on the night of Wednesday and Thursday, where three victims were assaulted and robbed.

The two individuals who were arrested have been identified as R Jagath Hari, aged 20, and Cheran, aged 21, both residents of Chinniyampalayam. According to an investigation officer, Hari had a history of addiction to ganja and alcohol, and was involved in several previous robberies. When the police attempted to apprehend him, he tried to escape on a motorcycle but ended up falling and sustaining fractures to his hand and leg. He is currently receiving treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.

The gang, consisting of eight members in total, first attacked M Baskar, a 23-year-old resident of Athikuttai Pirivu near Thottipalayam Pirivu, at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday. They robbed him of a silver ring, a mobile phone, and ₹5,000 in cash. Two members of the gang then left for their respective homes, while the remaining six booked a call taxi. They proceeded to assault the taxi driver, Prasanth, aged 29, of Alandurai, and robbed him at knifepoint, stealing ₹5,000 and three mobile phones. The same night, around 12:30 am, they assaulted H Akhil, aged 25, of Sulur and stole his motorcycle.

Following the complaints lodged by the victims, the police swiftly arrested six members of the gang, two of whom were minors. They were also able to recover all the stolen items. It is worth noting that during the initial arrest, one of the accused attempted to flee but ended up fracturing his left leg. This individual has been identified as M Somasundaram, a native of Sivaganga district who was working at a workshop in Neelambur.

All eight members of the gang have now been remanded in judicial custody and are currently lodged in prison.

In related news, two more robbers have been arrested in Coimbatore for their involvement in three separate robbery cases. The arrested individuals have been identified as R Jagath Hari and Cheran, the same names as the individuals arrested in the previous case. The gang targeted various victims, including a taxi driver and a motorcycle owner, and stole their belongings. The police had previously arrested six members of the gang and successfully recovered all the stolen items. Jagath Hari, who had a history of drug and alcohol addiction, attempted to escape but fell and sustained injuries. He is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

This incident follows a similar case in Thane district, Maharashtra, where two robbers were apprehended by the Bazarpeth police in Kalyan. The accused, Nihal Shaikh and Chand Shaikh, would assault people and steal their valuables and cash. They had also stolen three motorcycles. The police were able to recover cash, valuables, and the stolen motorcycles. The robbers were found to be drug addicts who stole to fund their drug habit.
