63-Year-Old Security Officer Bradley Haas Killed in New Hampshire Hospital Shooting

Accident – Death – Obituary News : CONCORD, NH — A tragic incident occurred on Friday at New Hampshire Hospital in Concord, resulting in the death of a 63-year-old security officer. Bradley Haas was shot by a gunman who entered the psychiatric hospital’s front lobby on Clinton Street around 3:30 p.m., according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office. Despite the efforts of first responders who performed CPR on Haas, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Concord Hospital.

The Attorney General’s Office revealed that Haas had previously served as the Chief of the Franklin, New Hampshire Police Department. With a commendable career spanning 28 years in law enforcement and an additional three years as a military police officer in the US Army, Haas had dedicated his life to public service.

The immediate response to the shooting came from a state trooper who was assigned to the hospital. The trooper quickly arrived at the scene and fatally shot the alleged gunman, bringing an end to the threat. As a precautionary measure, all staff, patients, and other individuals inside the hospital were evacuated from the building.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene that unfolded in the aftermath of the shooting. Jessica Bedard, who happened to be near the hospital at the time, recalled the sound of sirens, the sight of multiple ambulances, fire trucks, and armed police officers blocking off streets. The incident left residents like Dana Mercier feeling terrified, especially those with loved ones in nearby nursing homes, who were worried for their safety.

In response to the shooting, a New Hampshire State Police bomb squad unit conducted a thorough search of a suspicious box truck on the hospital’s campus. Fortunately, it was determined that the vehicle posed no safety risk. The suspect was declared deceased by Homeland Security at 4:40 p.m., according to their alert.

Authorities took to social media platforms to provide updates and inform the public about the incident. New Hampshire State Police confirmed on Twitter that multiple people had been shot at the hospital just after 4:00 p.m. The New Hampshire Hospital, as stated on the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services website, aims to assist individuals with acute mental illness in stabilizing their conditions and living fulfilling lives.

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu expressed his condolences for Haas’ untimely death in a heartfelt statement on Facebook. The Governor acknowledged Haas’ heroic actions and decades of public service, offering support to his grieving family.

The Franklin Police Department also plans to honor Haas’ memory by flying their flags at half-staff and wearing mourning arm bands on their badges.
