26-Year-Old Man Arrested and Charged with Murder of 18-Year-Old Emily Bortee, Whose Body was Found near Pico Rivera Freeway

A 26-year-old man has been taken into custody without bail and is now facing a murder charge following the tragic discovery of the lifeless body of an 18-year-old woman near a freeway ramp in Pico Rivera.

Identified as Emily Bortee, the young woman’s remains were found on October 16th in a brush area adjacent to the Rose Hills Road on-ramp leading to the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the arrest of Marvell Beroit, a resident of Hawthorne, on October 23rd in connection with Bortee’s death, subsequently charging him with murder.

While the CHP has not disclosed specific details surrounding the investigation, they have stated that an “extensive investigation” led them to apprehend Beroit. The county Medical Examiner’s Office is currently withholding the exact cause of Bortee’s untimely demise, and it remains classified as deferred.
