Swift Action by Glen Ridge Police Sergeant Thwarts Burglary in Progress

By Richard L. Smith

In an impressive display of quick response, Glen Ridge Police Sergeant Anthony Mazza successfully foiled a burglary in progress at the Hillside Avenue parking lot. The incident unfolded when Sgt. Mazza, while on patrol, heard an audible car alarm.

Simultaneously, a Glen Ridge Crossing Guard contacted the police headquarters to report an ongoing auto burglary they had witnessed.

Sgt. Mazza wasted no time and promptly entered the parking lot to investigate the situation. To his dismay, he discovered a broken vehicle window and noticed a male suspect attempting to walk away from the scene.

Despite instructing the suspect to halt, the individual decided to flee the area, making a desperate run towards Bloomfield in a bid to evade capture.

Showing remarkable determination, Sgt. Mazza gave chase on foot, pursuing the suspect until they reached the front of a store located at 710 Bloomfield Avenue, according to Bloomfield Police officials.

Undeterred by the suspect’s attempt to cross Bloomfield Avenue, Sgt. Mazza persevered and continued the pursuit until he successfully apprehended the suspect just east of Clark Street. The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Mr. Kelvin Ollennu from East Orange.

Without further incident, Ollennu was placed under arrest. Subsequent investigation revealed that Ollennu was found in possession of property stolen from the burglarized vehicle.

As a result, Ollennu now faces multiple charges, including Resisting Arrest, Theft, Burglary to Auto, and Criminal Mischief. The incident remains under investigation, and the charges have been forwarded to the Essex County Superior Court.

In addition to these charges, Ollennu is also suspected of vandalizing vehicles in Montclair.

It is crucial to remember that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
