In a heart-wrenching incident, a 10-year-old boy named Dipak Thakor lost his life after being viciously attacked by a group of monkeys in the Salki village of Gujarat, western India. This distressing event marks the latest in a series of monkey attacks that have occurred in the area.

According to the Press Trust of India, Dipak was playing with his friends near a temple when the horrifying attack took place. The monkeys, believed to be responsible for three recent attacks in the village, ripped out the boy’s intestines, causing fatal injuries. Shockingly, this was the third instance of monkey attacks in Salki village within just one week.

An official, who shared details of the incident, expressed the severity of the attack, stating, “His intestine was ripped out in the attack. He rushed to his house and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.”

Authorities have been diligently working to capture the monkeys involved in these attacks. Forest official Vishal Chaudhary revealed that efforts have been underway to apprehend the primates responsible. He mentioned that a sizeable troop of monkeys, including four adults, has been causing havoc in the village. Two of the culprits have already been captured, while preparations are underway to trap the third monkey using strategically placed cages.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time India has witnessed incidents of monkey attacks in recent years. Just earlier this year, a monkey with a bounty of ₹21,000 (approximately $250) on its head was captured in Madhya Pradesh after terrorizing 20 individuals over a two-week period. Another shocking incident occurred in Maharashtra state in 2021, where two monkeys were apprehended under suspicion of murdering as many as 250 puppies. The monkeys were observed carrying the helpless pups to the tops of trees and rooftops before dropping them to their tragic deaths.

While monkeys are not inherently aggressive, such attacks are not uncommon in India, especially in areas where humans and monkeys coexist closely, often due to the proximity of human settlements to forested regions. In some instances, the monkeys may feel threatened or have become accustomed to receiving food from humans, leading to these unfortunate confrontations.

It is crucial for authorities to implement measures that ensure the safety and well-being of both the local human population and the monkey species. Education and awareness programs can play a vital role in informing communities about appropriate behavior, discouraging the feeding of monkeys, and promoting peaceful coexistence.
