A tragic incident unfolded on Friday morning in Amritsar, Punjab, as Assistant Sub Inspector Saroop Singh, a senior police officer, was discovered dead. Singh, who was assigned to Nawad Pind police station, left his home at 9 pm on Thursday, and unfortunately, that was the last time his family had any contact with him as his phone was turned off just 30 minutes later.

According to reports, Singh was on his way to his shift when he was ambushed and shot by assailants on a motorcycle. His lifeless body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the police have initiated a murder investigation against the unknown attackers.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural), Sucha Singh, stated that this tragic incident is not politically motivated but stems from personal animosity. In an effort to bring the culprits to justice, the police have dispatched teams to apprehend the suspects.

\”There is no political angle to this incident. It is a matter of personal enmity. Police parties have been dispatched to arrest the accused,\” stated Deputy Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural), Sucha Singh, as quoted by news agency ANI.

The shocking killing has sparked a political exchange, with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party facing criticism. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a prominent BJP leader, expressed deep concern over the incident and condemned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of prioritizing Kejriwal’s agenda over the interests of Punjab.

\”It is alarming to witness the rising number of murders and killings in Punjab. Bhagwant Mannji, the people of Punjab entrusted you with the responsibility of governance, not to serve as Kejriwal’s driver. Compromising Punjab’s interests for Kejriwal’s agenda is not what the people voted for!!\”, the BJP leader posted on X.

Similarly, Bikram Singh Majithia, a prominent Akali Dal leader, held Chief Minister Mann responsible for the untimely demise of the police officer. Majithia criticized the government for its focus on events while Punjab continues to grapple with issues of violence and crime.

The opposition Congress’ youth wing also voiced criticism, shedding light on the vulnerability of law enforcement officials in Punjab and raising concerns about the safety of the general public.
