The investigation was initiated after the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received cyber-tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding an individual uploading images of child pornography to the internet. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit conducted a thorough investigation, which eventually identified an IP address associated with a Brick Township residence as the source of the uploads. Cesar Ortega-Zevallos was subsequently identified as the individual responsible.

To further the investigation, detectives from both the Brick Township Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office collaborated with agents from U.S. Homeland Security Investigations. On Thursday, a court-authorized search warrant was executed at Ortega-Zevallos’ residence in Brick. The specific address has not been disclosed to the public.

During the search, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit conducted a forensic examination of Ortega-Zevallos’ computer. The examination revealed the presence of over 1,000 images classified as child pornography. Without incident, Ortega-Zevallos was taken into custody at his residence and subsequently transported to the Ocean County Jail. He will remain there pending a detention hearing.

The arrest of Cesar Ortega-Zevallos serves as a reminder of the commitment and dedication of law enforcement agencies in combating the distribution and possession of child pornography. The collaborative efforts between the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Brick Township Police Department, and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations highlight the importance of interagency cooperation in addressing such heinous crimes.
