Accident – Death – Obituary News : to engage in battles that were beyond our imagination. The heat alone is enough to knock a man out, let alone the constant threat of enemy fire.
I remember one particular incident that I will never forget. We were in the trenches, waiting for the enemy to make their move. The anticipation was unbearable, and the air was thick with tension. Suddenly, a shell landed just a few feet away from me. The explosion was deafening, and for a moment, everything around me went black.

When I regained my senses, I realized that I was covered in dirt and debris. The ringing in my ears was unbearable, and I struggled to stand up. As I looked around, I saw the devastation that the shell had caused. Bodies lay scattered across the ground, their lifeless eyes staring up at the sky.
I felt a mix of emotions that I cannot fully describe. Fear, anger, and sadness all consumed me. How could something so destructive exist in this world? How could men willingly engage in such violence? These questions haunted me as I helped carry the wounded to safety and attended to the fallen.
The days that followed were a blur of heat, smoke, and gunfire. We fought tirelessly, driven by a sense of duty and camaraderie. We witnessed unspeakable acts of violence, but also moments of bravery and compassion. Through it all, we clung to the hope that one day, this war would come to an end.
As I write this letter, I am reminded of the sacrifices that we have made and the lives that have been lost. Each day brings us closer to victory, but at what cost? The toll that this war has taken on our bodies and minds is immeasurable.

I long for the day when I can return home to Chico, to the familiar streets and faces that I hold dear. But until then, I will continue to fight, to endure, and to remember those who have fallen. The war may have changed me, but it will not break me.
Please give my regards to everyone back home. Know that even in the midst of this chaos, I carry Chico in my heart. Stay safe, and may we meet again soon.
Yours faithfully,
Pinkus Kurtz.
