HASSAN (KARNATAKA): In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old man was apprehended by the police on Friday for allegedly murdering his girlfriend in the Hassan district of Karnataka. The accused, identified as Tejas, reportedly slit the woman’s throat with a knife during a heated argument.

The victim, a final year computer science engineering student, had been in a relationship with Tejas for over six months. Both Tejas and the victim were graduates from the same college, where he was her senior.

According to sources, their relationship was marred by frequent arguments and fights, which intensified after Tejas discovered some revelations about the woman’s past relationship. He accused her of hiding information from him, leading to a heated quarrel between the couple. The woman, fed up with Tejas’ constant interference and intrusive behavior, expressed her desire to end the relationship.

On Thursday, Tejas deceived the woman by luring her to the main town under the pretext of discussing their issues. He then took her on his motorcycle to the remote Kunti Betta hills, approximately 13 km away. Another altercation broke out between them, during which Tejas drew a knife and inflicted a fatal wound on her throat.

After committing the heinous act, Tejas fled the scene on his two-wheeler, leaving the injured woman behind. Local residents who came across the victim rushed her to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.

The police have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the tragic incident. The swift action of the police led to the arrest of Tejas, who is now in custody.
