Austin, Texas – Law enforcement officials have released new details surrounding the deadly officer-involved shooting that took place on November 11, resulting in the tragic death of Officer Jorge Pastore. The incident unfolded early in the morning when a barricaded gunman, later identified as 35-year-old Ahmed Mohamed Nassar, held three hostages inside a residence in Austin.

The situation took a devastating turn when Nassar shot and killed a SWAT officer who was responding to the scene. The officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, leading to his death. However, the tragedy did not end there, as two other victims were found dead inside the home after police forced their way in at approximately 4 a.m.

Officer Jorge Pastore, who joined the Austin Police Department in January 2020, was among the casualties in the shootout. His untimely death has left the community in mourning and law enforcement agencies in shock.

The Austin Police Department has released a detailed timeline of events that occurred on that fateful day. At 2:49 a.m., dispatchers received a distress call from Bernoulli Drive. The caller, who was later identified as one of the hostages, screamed for help and reported that someone was stabbing her. Within eight minutes, uniformed police officers arrived at the scene and began gathering crucial information, including the location of the suspect.

During their investigation, officers learned that two other individuals were injured and held captive inside the residence alongside Nassar. Fortunately, a third victim managed to escape just before the officers arrived. She informed them that Nassar was still armed with a knife. The victim was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries.

At approximately 3 a.m., the officers identified themselves as Austin Police Officers before forcefully entering the home. Upon entering, Nassar opened fire, forcing the officers to retreat without returning fire. Given the hostage situation and the armed suspect, the SWAT team was called in for assistance. At 4:11 a.m., they made an emergency entry into the home.

A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between SWAT officers and Nassar. Two officers were shot during the confrontation but were swiftly moved to safety by EMS tactical medics, who provided immediate aid. Both injured officers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Tragically, Officer Jorge Pastore succumbed to his injuries, while the other injured officer was treated and later released. Additionally, two victims inside the residence, identified as 63-year-old Eyman Nassar and 62-year-old Riad Nassar, were found dead. Ahmed Nassar, the suspect, also sustained fatal injuries at the scene.

The Austin Police Department has stated that the incident was captured on body-worn cameras worn by the responding officers. As per department policy, the video footage will be released within 10 business days. Three officers who responded to the scene discharged their firearms, and all three have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigations.

The department plans to conduct two separate investigations into the incident. A criminal investigation will be carried out by the APD Special Investigations Unit in collaboration with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. Simultaneously, an administrative investigation will be conducted by the APD Internal Affairs Unit, overseen by the Office of Police Oversight.

According to a search warrant executed at the suspect’s home, it was revealed that Nassar was armed with a rifle and wearing tactical gear during the incident. The warrant listed various items found at the scene as evidence connected to the criminal offense of murder, including body armor, protective plates, ballistic helmets, arm or leg protection, night vision goggles, firearms and ammunition, targets that had been shot, and possible explosive devices or bomb-making materials.
