Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : Georgia Department of Corrections Makes Multiple Arrests in Battle Against Prison Contraband

GEORGIA — The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has announced a significant breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to combat contraband inside and outside of state prisons. In the month of November, their dedicated staff successfully apprehended multiple individuals attempting to smuggle illegal items into correctional facilities. The GDC shared a graphic illustrating the nine individuals who were arrested for their involvement in these smuggling attempts.

The arrests took place between November 6 and November 12, highlighting the department’s continuous efforts to maintain security and prevent the entry of contraband into prisons. The items seized by GDC officials included drugs, electronics, and phones, all of which are strictly prohibited within correctional facilities.

The GDC revealed that these arrests were made across five state prisons and involved the apprehension of two officers and several civilians. The individuals arrested in connection with the smuggling attempts are as follows:

– Officer Jaylin Lane at Lee State Prison
– Anthony Riley at Wilcox State Prison
– Dontacius Patrick at Dooly State Prison
– Solomon Thompkins at Dooly State Prison
– Travis Short at Baldwin State Prison
– Devonta Strickland at Baldwin State Prison
– Officer Rosario Dawson at Augusta State Medical Prison

During the investigations, it was discovered that Officer Rosario Dawson had a bundle of tobacco in her possession. In Milledgeville, Travis Short and Devonta Strickland were found with numerous phones, chargers, cords, earbuds, rolling papers, and tobacco. At Dooly State Prison, officers from the GDC K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop and discovered Dontacius Patrick and Solomon Thompkins with drones, tobacco, marijuana, guns, and cellphones. In Calhoun County, officers found Franklin at Calhoun State Prison with a duffle bag filled with tobacco, marijuana, cell phones, charging blocks, cords, earbuds, lighters, and packs of cigarettes. Anthony Riley was arrested in Abbeville with a drone, a large quantity of tobacco, multiple phones, lighters, earbuds, and rolling papers. Lastly, Officer Jaylin Lane was found with a sealed bag of marijuana taped to his body at Lee State Prison.

The GDC’s successful operations have resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of contraband across various locations. At Baldwin State Prison in Milledgeville, officials confiscated nine touch screen cellphones, four flip phones, three charging cords, ten charging blocks, eleven USB cords, one pair of earbuds, two packs of rolling paper, and 794 grams of tobacco. In Houston County at Dooly State Prison, they seized two drones, one drone controller, 394 grams of tobacco, 1457 grams of marijuana, two guns, and three cell phones. In Calhoun County at Calhoun State Prison, the confiscated items included 5,115 grams of tobacco, 874 grams of marijuana, seven cell phones, three charging blocks, 29 charging cords, 15 earbuds, 73 lighters, and 19 packs of cigarettes. In Abbeville at Wilcox State Prison, officials discovered one drone, 3,767 grams of tobacco, four cell phones, two chargers, four earbuds, ten lighters, and six rolling papers.
