The tranquil roads of Washington County, Wisconsin, were disrupted on Tuesday night when multiple calls came in reporting an individual driving erratically on Interstate 41. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a total of five calls in quick succession, all describing the same alarming behavior.

Sheriff Martin Schulteis confirmed that a deputy promptly located the vehicle after it was reported to have struck a barricade in Menomonee Falls. Radio communication captured the deputy’s urgent request for backup, as the driver’s erratic driving continued. “I got him in front of me. He’s all over the road. Start rolling me more cars,” the deputy relayed to dispatch.

Initially, the driver pulled over on the shoulder in Slinger, but he quickly fled the scene after a deputy managed to record the vehicle identification number. The pursuit resumed, with the decision to continue chasing the suspect, even at speeds reaching 115 mph, being made after discovering that the car had been involved in an armed carjacking in Milwaukee.

Deputies from Dodge County joined the pursuit, assisting by deploying tire-flattening devices as the chase traversed their jurisdiction. Despite their efforts, the suspect continued driving on flat tires, as evident from sparks flying from the rims, as captured by Department of Transportation cameras.

Schulteis speculated that the suspect had driven on deflated tires for a significant period before finally losing control of the vehicle and rolling into a ditch in Fond du Lac County. Upon searching the car, deputies discovered a semi-automatic rifle with ammunition, indicating the potential for further violence. In addition, illegal opiates were also found in the vehicle.

The situation took a medical turn as well, as Schulteis revealed that the suspect had to be administered Narcan multiple times by medical staff. This suggested that the suspect had likely ingested some of the drugs found in the car during the course of the incident.

The 25-year-old Milwaukee man, who had no prior criminal record, was taken into custody. However, his identity has not been released as he has yet to be formally charged. Authorities are expected to press charges related to the armed carjacking and the subsequent pursuit.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this high-speed chase, which spanned multiple counties and involved law enforcement agencies from Washington and Dodge Counties. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by the community and the commitment of law enforcement officials to protect and uphold public safety.
