The incident occurred on November 12 at approximately 3:10 a.m., when officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of Valley View Boulevard and Flamingo Road.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat of a Toyota Corolla, who was not wearing a seatbelt. The injured man was immediately transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, as stated by the police.

During the investigation, officers encountered Cornwall, who claimed to be the driver of the Toyota Tundra involved in the crash. However, Cornwall refused to cooperate with the police or emergency medical personnel, remaining silent when questioned. Due to his alleged injuries, Cornwall requested medical attention, prompting officers to suspend the standardized field sobriety tests and transport him to a local hospital, as detailed in the report.

While at the hospital, police officers noticed a distinct smell of alcohol emanating from Cornwall, along with bloodshot eyes. The report also noted that Cornwall was speaking softly and avoiding eye contact with officers, further raising suspicions of possible intoxication.

To gather evidence, officers obtained a search warrant for a blood test and subsequently arrested Cornwall on suspicion of DUI.

Surveillance footage obtained from the scene revealed that the Toyota Corolla had come to a stop at a red light on Flamingo Road at the intersection with Valley View Boulevard. When the light turned green, the Corolla began to proceed through the intersection. However, at the same time, the Toyota Tundra, driven by Cornwall, entered the intersection against a red light, resulting in a collision on the passenger side of the Corolla. The impact caused the Corolla to veer off the road.

Data retrieved from the Tundra’s onboard system showed that the vehicle was traveling at a speed of 62 mph just five seconds before the crash occurred. This exceeded the posted speed limit of 35 mph for that particular section of Valley View Boulevard. Moreover, the data indicated that Cornwall had been intermittently applying pressure to both the brake and accelerator pedals, suggesting a hesitancy to stop despite recognizing the signal light changing, according to the report.

During a subsequent search, officers discovered three and a half white pills identified as Acetaminophen Hydrocodone Bitartrate in the sipper pocket of Cornwall’s wallet. These pills are classified as a dangerous drug, leading to an additional charge against Cornwall.

Following his arrest, Cornwall was transported to the Clark County Detention Center, where he remains in custody.

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The LVMPD continues to urge drivers to prioritize safety and responsibility on the roads to prevent such incidents and protect the lives of all road users..
