Accident – Death – Obituary News : Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Ravensdale Homicide Investigation

RAVENSDALE, Wash. — A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the ongoing investigation of a beloved Ravensdale husband and father who was tragically killed in September. Andrew Ralph Baim is now facing charges of second-degree murder, second-degree arson, and two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle.

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has requested $4 million bail for Baim, citing concerns over the safety of the community. According to court documents, Baim is considered a significant danger to the community and a substantial flight risk.

The incident took place on September 21, when a 911 call reported an altercation in a wooded area near 329th Place Southeast and 327th Way Southeast. The victim, 53-year-old Nick Valison, had confronted several individuals who were suspected of illegally dumping trash. Sadly, Valison was assaulted during the confrontation and was later found unresponsive by King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Valison was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the neighborhood had been plagued by issues of illegal dumping. Valison had taken it upon himself to investigate a U-Haul truck that was seen in the area. Deputies later discovered the stolen U-Haul truck in a nearby wooded area, surrounded by a large amount of trash and assorted items.

A resident reported witnessing a black or dark gray pickup truck, possibly a Dodge Ram, driving recklessly and at a high speed away from the scene. Further investigation revealed that King County Sheriff’s deputies had recently interacted with Baim, who was driving a Dodge Ram matching the description provided by the witness.

Later in the day, KCSO responded to a report of a truck engulfed in flames at the 26000 block of 336th Avenue. It was determined that the burning vehicle was the same Dodge Ram that Baim had been seen with earlier, and it was confirmed to be stolen.

Investigators obtained photos from Valison’s phone that were taken moments before the assault. These photos also showed the Dodge Ram that Baim had been driving. Witnesses stated that Baim intentionally ran over Valison with the truck following their altercation.

Baim was apprehended on unrelated warrants on September 23 and has been in custody ever since. The charges filed against him shed light on the tragic events of that fateful day in Ravensdale.

The loss of Nick Valison has deeply impacted the community, and friends and family have come together to honor his memory. A link to their tribute can be found here: ‘Girl dad to the core’: Family, friends honor Ravensdale father killed in homicide.

As the investigation continues, the King County Prosecutor’s Office is determined to bring justice for Valison and ensure the safety of the community. The requested $4 million bail reflects the severity of the charges against Baim and the potential danger he poses.

The tragic loss of Nick Valison serves as a reminder of the need to address issues such as illegal dumping, which can escalate into violent confrontations. The authorities are working diligently to apprehend those responsible and prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
