Police Make Multiple Arrests for DUI and Drug Possession in St. Mary’s County

On 11th November 2023, Trooper Holder of the Maryland State Police conducted a routine traffic stop on Pegg Road in Lexington Park, MD. The investigation revealed that the driver, identified as 63-year-old Willie West Burden from Mechanicsville, MD, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, Burden was arrested for DUI.

During a search incident to arrest, law enforcement officers discovered suspected cocaine in Burden’s possession. He was subsequently transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where he faced charges of Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) other than cannabis and Possession of CDS paraphernalia. Additionally, Burden received multiple citations for driving under the influence.

The following day, on 12th November 2023, Trooper Lewis pulled over a vehicle on Three Notch Road at Woodpecker Lane in Hollywood, MD. Upon approaching the vehicle, Trooper Lewis noticed a loaded AK-47 pistol in plain view. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, leading to the discovery of over 470 grams of suspected cannabis and another loaded handgun.

The driver, Stanley Derant Burch Jr, a 35-year-old resident of Norfolk, VA, was arrested at the scene. Burch Jr was then taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where he faced charges for possessing a loaded handgun on his person and in the vehicle, possessing an additional handgun, engaging in a firearm/drug trafficking crime, and possessing CDS (cannabis) over the legal limit.

On 15th November 2023, Trooper Black conducted a traffic stop on Great Mills Road at Eric Road in Lexington Park, MD. A K9 scan of the vehicle resulted in a positive alert, prompting a search. The search revealed suspected crack cocaine and related paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 35-year-old Kyle Ryan Summers from Great Mills, MD. Summers was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where he faced charges of Possession of CDS (not cannabis) and Possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Driving Under the Influence Arrests

In addition to the drug-related arrests, several individuals were also apprehended for driving under the influence on separate occasions.

  • On 11th November 2023, Tpr Holder arrested 63-year-old Willie West Burden of Mechanicsville, MD for DUI.
  • On 13th November 2023, Tpr Holder arrested 23-year-old Tyrik Montel Brooks of California, MD for DUI.
  • On 14th November 2023, Tpr Hersh arrested 47-year-old Matthew John Julian of Lexington Park, MD for DUI.

Arrests for Open Warrants

Additionally, the Maryland State Police executed arrests for individuals with open warrants.

  • On 10th November 2023, Tpr Holder arrested 37-year-old Lloyd Henry Jenifer of Nanjemoy, MD for Second Degree Assault (x2).
  • On 13th November 2023, Tpr Oliva Flores arrested 30-year-old James Earl Howell of Glen Burnie, MD for Failure to Appear (FTA) related to driving with a suspended license.
